Renishaw Hall Vineyard Tour
Our final visit of the summer programme was a tour of the vineyards at Renishaw Hall. Renishaw
has been in the family of current owner Alexandra Sitwell for nearly
400 years and the hall is still a lived-in family home. The stunning
Italianate gardens were laid out in the late 19th Century and the
vineyard, planted in 1972, was the most northern vineyard in the world
until 1986. The tour was led by award-winning winemaker Kieron who gave us an insight into how the vineyard at Renishaw was developed and how the techniques they use for managing the vines shape the wines that are produced. He then uncorked three different wines for us to try - the white wine is sold out already! - and described the different methods and flavours that go into each one. A visit to the café and the gardens rounded off the afternoon nicely.
